Lookout, The (2007)

Plot: An admired high school hockey player (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) with a bright future foolishly takes a drive in the night with his girl friend and two other friends with his headlights off with devastating results. The former athlete is left with a brain injury that prevents him from remembering many things for extended periods of time. To compensate, he keeps notes in a small notebook to aid him in remembering what he is to do. He also lives with a blind friend (Jeff Daniels) who aids him. Obviously, with the mental incapacitation, he is unable to have meaningful work. Thus he works as a night cleaning man in a bank. It is there he comes under the scrutiny of a gang planning to rob the bank. The leader (Matthew Goode) befriends him and gets him involved with a young woman (Isla Fisher) who further reels him in. After they get close and after reeling him in with his own failures, the bank plan unfolds. Confused but wanting to escape his current existence, he initially goes along with the scheme. After realizing he is being used, he attempts to stop the robbery, which of course immediately goes awry. Bruce McGill and Alberta Watson also co-star as the young man’s parents, who still search for the person that was there before the tragic crash.

It’s at an all-boys school.

It starts with this guy named Xavier, who is obsessed with a boy named Danton. He stalks him, takes his picture without him knowing, leaves a river of anonymous notes in his locker, and watches him through the window at home. Danton is thoroughly creeped out, but does not say anything until he is home alone one day and he notices things that point to someone having been in the house (all his drawers had been looked through but nothing taken, the window open, etc.)

He tells his brother who is the same age as him, and his brother tells their best friend, and the two of them decide they’ll find out who this guy is and stop him. They do find Xavier, beat him to a nub, and threaten his life.

The next day, the entire school knows about what happened. Immediately, some students are concerned for "poor Xavier" who was innocent and victimized, and some students are taken by Luke (Danton’s brother) and William’s ( their friend) action.

When Xavier does not stop talking about his obsession with Danton, some of the other boys kind of join him. This is where it loses some of it’s sexuality, because it becomes more of a principal than a human fixation. Danton represents innocence, sweetness, almost perfection, and the boys, after listening to Xavier, see that and so many other things that they become obsessed with as well for so many reasons, only some of them sexual.

When the obsession becomes stronger and Danton begins finding more notes in his locker, begins noticing people staring at him, he gets scared and more people join Luke and William in trying to stop the "freaks".

It slowly escalates, and finally, there’s an attempt by a few of the obsessives to kidnap Danton. This causes an uproar. The students are suddenly frantic. Those obsessed with Danton (or the idea of having/obtaining Danton) have to show up to his house, tap on the bathroom window while he’s taking showers, etc. Those who are hell-bent on protecting Danton follow him around, buy his lunch, and are all around on the lookout.

It gets extremely violent as they set out to destroy each other, to stop the other "side". Luke gets shot, not killed, just shot in the arm. There are stabbings. Rapes. Three selective deaths throughout the story. All associated with gang violence by the police.

There’s a theme of the adults in the story being very uninvolved.

There is a scene where Xavier is talking about how he never wanted it to be like this, how everybody is greedy and evil and all he ever did was love Danton.

Then there are Luke and William, who were concerned for Danton, and are baffled by those who are also "concerned" because the others seem more interested in hurting "freaks" like the ones obsessed with Danton.

It strays from actual Danton, but never /really/ does because everything is kind of motivated by him.

After Luke got shot, it all started to unravel. More than half the student body was directly involved in this, and the rest knew exactly what was going on. Kids were genuinely afraid to come to school because of all the violence and terror. Of the three deaths, one was of an obsessive, one was of a protector, and one was of this innocent guy who went to school and said the wrong thing.

It ends with the very disturbed Xavier bringing a gun, killing Danton, Luke, wounding William, killing one of the higher-ups of the obsessives, and then killing himself to "end the madness".

At the VERY end, the adults in the story, who had been extremely absent, are seemingly clueless to everything (including the deaths) and are asking the kids to sit down and do some schoolwork. It’s the first time that there’s a scene in the classroom.

the plot seems a little weak here and there, but other than that it looks like a decent story.

for some reason some story’s become so much better when visually depicted.
and so personally i think it would make a better graphic novel than a plain novel.
so maybe you might have some one help you visualize the charters in the story.

my dad will only let me shower 2 days in a week. please help me. i cant stop crying.?
okay well we have two showers in our house. one in the masters and one in a guest shower. the one that i use the guest one has been weird lately. there is like hot water for only 10 minutes. the master shower always has hot water. i used to showers in the masters and i would take about 20 minutes the most. yesterday i took a shower in the guest bathroom and there was only enough hot water to wash and condition my hair with. i complained and asked if i could use the masters he said no. i have to use the cold water till im done. i spent 45 minutes in there. turning it on and off. hoping there would be hot water. there was none. i showered in freezing water. and its 45 degrees outside. i was cold. now my head and entire body hurts. anyways.. when i get out the shower and get dressed he said from today you will only shower 2 times a week. it was sunday … so i cant shower mondays or tuesdays. i can shower wednesdays not thursdays fridays or saturdays. and again on sundays. i couldnt stop crying. how can a teenage girl only shower 2 times a week. i mean i get periods. i workout in gym and at home. im going to sweat and stink. i have given up gym at school. and wont dress out wich means i get a failing grade. i wont workout at home wich means i wont lose weight & ill gain a lot more back. i dont know what to do. this just isnt fair. when i take a shower in the masters bathroom it has hot water and the most i take is 20 minutes. and he always says i always take 1 hour 30 min. in the shower. i dont. i mean i have to wash and get clean. my mom isnt doing anything about it either. it hurts so much. what am i supposed to do?

You might not want to go to social workers but it’s the best choice. You should also tell your school counselor.Who knows you may be sent to stay with your relatives in a different country. Your father is abusive. YOU CAN’T LIVE LIKE THAT. It’s not good for you or your sisters. You’re the oldest you should do what you must to protect them and you.

Once you’re 18 or older and have a stable household you may be able to have your sisters to come live with you it you all split up.

Things will only get worse from here so you should stop it now.

There is the choice you can go stay with friends.IF a social worker AND your friend’s parents agree to it.

I know it hurts but once you do something about it, the pain will lessen. Don’t stay living with an abusive parent.

Fantasia Beaten In The French Guineas…What Was Wrong…?
So Fantasia could only finish 3rd in todays french guineas…qith frankie pressing the button for her to go 2 furlongs out..she couldnt find the pace of that in the Nell Gwyn stakes…what happened to her as she looked in a perfect position to go on and win?

Also what happened with Vocalised in the french 2000 guineas,i heard he got a bit jumpy going into the stalls but hes won his last 3 races before today so what went wrong?
I feel now there will be a lot of discussion over why Luca Cumani didnt send her for the english guineas,where she may of performed better having already run on the course just a few weeks before,David,there must of been something,she was an amazing filly last season and this is her first defeat in 6 starts,I agree tommy maybe it is something to do with not being 2 y.o’s and yes why didnt Bolger send Intense Focus anywhere,is there something we dont know or is he saving this horse for something big.

Vocalised only ran 7 days ago was way too early for him to race again have to wonder why Bolger didn’t race Intense Focus in any guineas after winning the dewhurst

I remember Ed Dunlop had two fillies some time back Lailani and Mot Juste and they were both very close in ability. They ran in the same races and Lailani always got the better of dear little Mot Juste and went on to win the Irish Oaks and the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf…but both fillies were given the chance to compete against each other, which Rainbow View and Fantasia have not and I believe that has now backfired badly on George Strawbridge. He could have had at least one classic under his belt and at the present he has none.

Zarkava was champion in her own country but she never ever left it, so how do we really know how good she could have been.

If Fantasia doesn’t travel, we can forgive her this run. I think the Coronotaion Cup, Ascot will suit her to a tee, as for Rainbow View look for a much better run at Epsom and on softer ground. It’s still too early to judge these young fillies… by Ascot we will know…Jac x

Finding a location in Berlin?
Hi

Is anybody Local to Berlin; or knows Berlin very well? I am travelling there in a few weeks and need to track a location down.

Ive seen the film "The Baader Meinhof Complex" and would like to see Ulrike Mienhof’s gravestone.
Ive been on Google Maps and tracked the location to:

Heilig-Kreuz-Kirchhof, Mariendorf,
Cemetery, which I believe is North of Tegel Airport.
Ive found U-Bhan stations around the area although they look a distance away. Does anybody know if the cemetery is in realistic walking distance; and how long it would take to walk from the nearest U-Bhan Station?

Also is the cemetery large; is her grave easy to locate. Ive tracked down its in "Zone A"? Does anybody know where that is in the cemetery?
