1408
1408 (2007)

IMDB rating: 7.20

Plot: Based on the short Stephen King horror story of the same name, 1408 surrounds supernatural writer Mike Enslin, an author of two hit books focusing on supernatural phenomena. As research for his latest book, Enslin is determined to check out the notorious room 1408 in a New York City hotel by personally staying as a guest in the fabled room. With the intention that 1408 is just a myth perpetuated by stories and rumor that Enslin has collected for his past works. However, hotel manager Mr. Olin has strong objections to Enslin’s stay and only warns him of possible danger to come. But Enslin is determined to go through and convinced that the horrific past of 1408 is just mere coincidence and a myth. But what Mike Enslin is about to experience is no myth, as 1408 truly is a room where the guests don’t check out by noon.

What is a good ghost story?
I’m looking for a movie that is similar to the Amityville Horror (old or new) A ghost movie that is about an evil force/poltergeist that terrorizes a house. But these are the rules:

- It must have been made no earlier than 1994. So from 1994 to right now, the movie came out.
- It has to be in present time. So no new releases that take place in the 1800’s
- It has to be about a haunted house. No haunted hotels, schools, theatres, etc… Must be a haunted house.
- It must be rated pg-13 or R but preferably R. just saying it needs to be scary.
- Nothing cheesy with a bad script and bad actors.
- Must be ghosts (or demons) that are evil

Please do not give me paranormal activity, stir of echos, the others, session 9, the grudge, 1408, what lies beneath, house on haunted hill, the sixth sense, the haunting or a haunting in Connecticut. I’ve seen all those but I like ghost movies and need more. I don’t really like old movies though because they don’t scare me as much. and I can’t seem to stay interested.

Serpico
Serpico (1973)

IMDB rating: 7.70

Plot: Frank Serpico is a young, inexperienced cop who starts out on patrol. Later, he starts to work as an undercover cop who busts all sorts of criminals, but mostly drug dealers and pushers. Since Serpico is a young man living in the 70’s, he lives as one. His image, based on how others look on him, shows him as just a ‘hippie’ and the criminals he busts have no idea he is really an undercover officer. Everything is working out well, except the money situation. Serpico refuses to accept money, as the other officers do. He feels this isn’t right, and wants to expose the situation. Who he thought were his friends now turn into his enemies when Serpico takes the stand on a grand jury investigation. He continues to work undercover, and his life is placed into jeopardy at the hands of his colleagues.

Have you seen any of the following movies and did you like them?
should i pass on any of these? inappropriate content isn’t a problem. provide as much info as you want and what you Truly though about these movies.

the shawshank redemption

25th hour
the illusionist
blood diamond
scarface
Memento
American psycho
se7en
american beauty
pans labyrinth
the departed
death proof
manhunter
kill bill
miller’s crossing
taxi driver
serpico
american gangster
jackie brown
Mean streets
donnie brasco

Good Will Hunting – great film, and this is coming from someone who dislikes both Affleck and Damon, it was very well done. 7/10

Shawshank Redemption – a must see, it’s great but not as great as everyone says. Some people call this the best film of all time, it’s not in my opinion but it certainly is in my top 50. 8/10

Departed – It was good I preferred Infernal Affairs though, which is the original of this. 6/10

25th Hour – Norton is spectacular as always 7/10

Scarface – I am very biased on this one, I do not like this film but for personal reasons. You should see it though many people adore this film and a lot of films reference it (won’t rate it)

Memento – Incredible, another must see 9/10

American Psycho – Loved the film and the book, this is one of the few films where I liked it better than the book. I won’t spoil it for you but many people interpret this film incorrectly, this is not a film about a serial killer, it’s a satire about how shallow society is. The director has been very clear on her intent check out her comments on it after you watch. 9/10

Se7en – highly stylized, i love the grittiness and the soundtrack. My fav crime/thriller. 9/10

Pan’s Labyrinth – Much more violent and dark then the trailers lead you to believe. Brutal in many scenes, again watch the commentary after. 9/10

Death Proof – It’s okay, a fun little film not as absorbing as many of the others you listed 6/10

Manhunter – I do not like this film at all, it seemed laughable, I thought the acting was really poor and it did not reflect what I imagined the book to be. I did love Red Dragon though, which is the same story. Many people do prefer this one over Red Dragon though, I just thought I would add that I am in a bit of a minority in my opinion here. 5/10

Kill Bill – Another ehh film for me, Volume 1 was stronger than 2 in my opinion. The O-ren story was my fav and is basically the movie Kite. 6/10

Taxi Driver – Watch it, even if it’s just for the camera-work near the end. Great film. 8/10

Jackie Brown – I like this film, many people don’t list it as Tarantino’s best but I think it’s right up there with his greatest. 7/10

Donnie Brasco – Worth watching 7/10

Psycho – Original, you have to see it. It’s a classic. The remake? forget it 9/10

V for Vendetta – again worth watching 6/10

Boondock Saints – Great film they are working on a sequel which people will be going nuts over when it comes out so you might as well watch this now lol. 7/10

Illusionist, Blood Diamond, Miller’s Crossing and Mean Streets – didn’t see it sorry

(as far as ratings go almost nothing gets a 10 so 9 is amazing)

Hope that helped.

I’ve seen The Illusionist and I fell asleep during it. it was awfully boring and I wish I hadn’t seen it, because all it did was waste a good 2 hours of my life. Please don’t waste your time (and money!).

My sister saw The Deperted and raves about it. She is always talking about it and how great of a movie it is. So I guess I’d recommend it.

Pans Labyrinth is a favorite of mine. It’s humorus, suspensful, scary, and entertaining! I see this movie often and I absouluty love it. Please watch it.

Scarface

Loved them both;- Blood Diamond was much better, I thought, because parts of it made me cry… But I watched Scarface more times.

On a scale of 1 – 10 (best) of the ones I’ve seen
good will hunting – 7
the shawshank redemption – 10
the illusionist – 8
blood diamond – 9 (it’s on USA tonight at 8 I think)
scarface – 7
se7en – 7 gets a 7
american beauty – 7 or maybe an 8
pans labyrinth – 7 (it would be better if it was in english)
death proof – 7 and watch the double feature… planet terror – 7.5
kill bill – 8
american gangster – 5 (very slow movie and disapointing with the actors that are in it)
v for vendetta – 9.5
boondock saints – 7 (the picture quality was bad but that could have just been my DVD)

Additional recomended movies (I give these all a 10): The Last Samuri, Gladiator, The Green Mile, Road To Perdition, Troy…
Brandon | Sep 03, 2009

I saw all of those movies. That’s quite a list. Death Proof and Boondock Saints were bad. The original Psycho is alot better than the remake. The rest of the movies are very good to excellent.

Can you be a critic for a part of my story please?
Please tell me if its good or bad, don’t mind the vocabulary I try my best, I’m only 14. Thanks! (Sorry, it’s a tad long :S)

Chapter I

"They’re moving to a new target. At this rate, we won’t be able to catch them. We can’t let them destroy our society, it’s the only thing that keeps the human world in order…if they succeed we’re all is done for." The woman said anxiously. Her orange eyes flaring with saddness.
"Then, its time we call in the expert now isn’t it?" A female British voice inquired, you could here the smile in her voice. She sounded young, maybe in her 20’s. The sound of a door slamming shut was heard from the entrance, footsteps came down the murky hallway, and when the light hit her soft face, the man running the council stood from his chair knocking it over.
"Miss Teel, we thought wouldn’t see you again." He studdered bowing his bald head.
"I said I was busy not dying." She hissed taking a seat. "And here I am,"
"Well it’s completley an honor to be in your powerful presence." the same man smiled warmly.
"Who wouldn’t be honored?" She smirked drinking from the water they gave her."Now, tell me about this problem."
"Of course, Miss Teel, anything you say." The man cleared his throat and began. "Centuries ago a child named Vladin was born. His parents were part of the Annientamento Alliance, and as you all know they are our immortal enemies. Plus having to deal with other weaker enemies it exhausts our people. Making many of us ill or injured leading to death. When this child Vladin was older around 14 he learned more about his unique power of using shadows for any use. Hiding, attacking, anything really. After his first battle with one of our members his victory made him crave more destruction. More battles came and he kept getting stronger, and in one fight with one of Miss Teel’s ancestors, they made a bet, if Vladin lost he would give up all his powers making him weak and old. But if her ancestor died, she would end up giving him her immortality and her abilities. At the end, Vladin won, making him the most feared man by our society. He’s on the move with his crew now, destroying alliances, societies, or even a mere gang. We’re trying to stop them, but we have no plan, no power." He finished running his hand over his head as if he had hair.
"So that’s why you called me in. Fine tell me where I have to go and I’ll be there. I’ll have this case finished before you can say–"
"You won’t be doing this alone." The man said a bit nervous. Knowing Miss Teel she always worked alone, having someone accompany her was like teaching a snake to walk on two feet, two of which it didn’t have.
"What?!" She screamed hysterically standing abrutly slamming her hands on the table making her cup fall to the ground and shatter to pieces. "There is no possible way you can force me to work with someone."
"You have to!" The man shouted over every noise being made. "Our hidden world is in extreme danger and I won’t have this world dead just because of your selfishness! You’re one of the only ones that can stop this maddness!" He walked over to her and eyed her down easily. Her light green eyes fierce, but nothing could compare to his piercing black eyes.
"I could let this world rott for all I care." Was her only response, she looked away making sure not to look into his eyes. With one single attempt he snatched her face with one hand, making her fall into a trance, not a love trance, but a hypnotizing one. That was his ability–hypnotizing.
"Oh really? Would you let the man that killed your family get away with this?" He growled tightening his grip.
Her hand shot to his throat squeezing it until he let her go, his face turned red and when she let him go, he nearly fell to the ground gasping. "Touch me again, and you’ll have it worst. But fine, only because I feel like getting revenge. Show me this person I’ll be working with, give me the information." Her glance shot toward the woman with all the paperwork, expecting an answer.
"Uhh…" she ruffled through some papers eagerly. "His name is Terrance Willow, 20 years of age, ability is…empathy, sensing, and invisibility. He has three, that’s what makes him your partner."
"Hmm…interesting. When will I meet him?"
"He’s in the testing room."
"Great, my partner is being used as a guniie pig." She muttered making the guard lead her to the room. He opened the door revealing a testing room with a guy laughing reapearing and dissapearing making a guy that was running the tests in the same room become tense.
"Boo." her partner said invisible behind the guy making all his papers fly in the air. That killed him of laughter the next time he appeared he was rolling on the ground.
"Mr. Willow," the guard harrumphed catching his attention. He stood, brushed off his clothes, and walked over to them.
"I’m Juliet Teel, my ability is mimicking powers." She tried to attempt a smile but all that rang in her mind was ‘idiot’ and ‘immature’.
"
sorry, look that’s part one of my story ok action will come later! gosh…i forgot how mean critics are lol x] and i forgot how to spell guinie pig…maybe that’s how you spell it…

I think you have a great start, but you should really work on your grammar, spelling and the way you describe things. The storyline sounds very intriguing, but the way your telling it takes away some of its magic…

Im also writing a novel, and i find that its easier for me to see what im doing wrong or what i could describe more thoroughly if someone re-writes something i’ve written. Only in a way so that i see what i could change or improve. So, if you want i could do that for you.

Email me,
 Kasdeek at yahoo.com />

don’t worry, im not out to steal your ideas or anything that you have written. I just love helping other people who are trying to write, just like someone helped me just as i was about to give up on my own novel…

So, feel free to email me anytime. =)

Good, but there are a few things I’d change.

I would change "The woman said anxiously. Her orange eyes flaring with sadness." to something more like "The woman said anxiously, her orange eyes creasing with worry."

""Then, its time we call in the expert now isn’t it?" A female British voice inquired, you could here the smile in her voice."- What she says doesn’t sound like a question, so it doesn’t really make sense. I would try something more like this :
"Then its time to call the expert in, isn’t it?" remarked a cool female voice, touched with a faint British accent. It was easy to hear the smile in her voice."

"Stuttered," not "Studdered"

""Well it’s completley an honor to be in your powerful presence." the same man smiled warmly."- Firstly, ‘completely’ was spelled wrong. Next, it doesn’t really seem like something someone would actually say. "It is a high honor to be in your powerful presence." might be closer to what he would really say.

When you are talking about Vladin, I suggest that you don’t specify the age 14, try "mid-teens" instead, since I’m guessing that power comes on over the course of several years, and its unlikely that the precise year would be known.

"She smirked drinking from the water they gave her."- I would say: "She smirked at him from over the rim of a glass of water."

"The man said a bit nervous. Knowing Miss Teel she always worked alone, having someone accompany her was like teaching a snake to walk on two feet, two of which it didn’t have."-
The man said a bit nervous? Are you trying to say: "The man said nervously?" or "Said the man apprehensively?"
The next sentences might flow better if they were something more like:
"Knowing Miss Teel, he fully expected her outrage. She always worked alone, and assigning someone to accompany her was harder than asking a snake to walk on two legs… two legs it didn’t have.

Guinea pig, not guniie pig.

"She muttered making the guard lead her to the room. He opened the door revealing a testing room with a guy laughing reapearing and dissapearing making a guy that was running the tests in the same room become tense.":
It doesn’t make all to much sense, so something like this might be better:
"She muttered darkly, indicating for the guard to lead her. He unlocked a door, ushering her into an adjacent testing room. Inside, all that could be seen was a scientist sitting in a desk, his expression terrified. The seat before him was empty. Suddenly, a young man appeared briefly in the corner, before evaporating with a ghostly chuckle. The scientist shuddered."
(Also, fyi, don’t use the word "guy" in this type of writing, it sounds highly unprofessional and unpolished.)

Its very good overall- I really love the idea. I apologize for the roughness of my examples, but I figured that you would understand what I meant by them. Just read through it, insert commas here and there, fix what I mentioned, and nobody would ever be able to tell that it was written by a 14 year old! You are very talented- keep going with this story!

Good Luck,

-Nathalie

What's a classic book that begins with K?
Preferably a book along the lines of those such as Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, etc.

King Lear- Shakespeare
Kidnapped- Robert Louis Stevenson
King Solomon’s Mines- Sir H. Rider Haggard

I would recommend ‘Kidnapped’, It’s a great book :-)

Kidnapped by Robert Lewis Stevenson is a book about a boy whose father dies, so he goes to his uncle’s. His uncle sells him, and he is kidnapped in a sense to be sold in slavery. However, he escapes. Very good book, my favorite out of all these.

The King Must Die by Mary Renaultis a historical novel about Theseus (the famous hero in Greek mythology.)

King Lear by Shakespeare is about tragedies in a royal family.

Kristen Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset is actually the name for a trilogy written almost 100 years ago… it won the Nobel Peace Prize but it may be hard to read, as it is about a Norwegian woman and the culture is different.

King of the Khyber Rifles was written in 1916 by British author Talbot Mundy about India. I’ve heard it’s great, but I’ve never read it.

Kit Carson or The Adventures of Kit Carson was a book published in 1873 by John S.C. Abbott. It’s not very famous but it is a classic about Kit Carson, the famous frontiersman.

P.S. I wouldn’t know if it’s a classic, but King Rat by China Mieville is dark fantasy, like Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz.
Here’s a short synopsis:

"Saul Garamond returns from a journey in late evening and sneaks into his bedroom to avoid a confrontation with his estranged father. He awakes to the intrusion of police and the news that his father has been murdered and he is the number-one suspect. Forgotten in a jail cell, he is freed by a peculiar, stinking, and impossibly strong stranger–only to find rescue may be worse than imprisonment. The plot moves through subterranean and rooftop London quick as a techno beat, as Saul discovers his curious heritage and finds himself marked for death in an age-old secret war among frightful inhuman powers."

It’s very famous and supposedly a very good read, I’ve been planning to give it a try.

Michael Clayton
Michael Clayton (2007)

IMDB rating: 7.80

Plot: Michael Clayton is an in-house “fixer” at one of the largest corporate law firms in New York. A former criminal prosecutor, Clayton takes care of Kenner, Bach & Ledeen’s dirtiest work at the behest of the firm’s co-founder Marty Bach. Though burned out and hardly content with his job as a fixer, his divorce, a failed business venture and mounting debt have left Clayton inextricably tied to the firm. At U/North, meanwhile, the career of litigator Karen Crowder rests on the multi-million dollar settlement of a class action suit that Clayton’s firm is leading to a seemingly successful conclusion. But when Kenner Bach’s brilliant and guilt-ridden attorney Arthur Edens sabotages the U/North case, Clayton faces the biggest challenge of his career and his life.

Is this a good Fantasy Football team. 10 points to best answer?
I’m wondering if this is a good Fantasy Football team. My record is 4-1 but I don’t know if its just that I have an easy schedule or my good players. 10 points to best answer. Tell me what changes I should make. the first player of each position is the ones I’ve been starting.

QB: Tony Romo, Kyle Orton
WR: Donald Driver
WR: Michael Crabtree
WR: Nate Burleson, Bernard Berrian, Mark Clayton
RB: Steve Slaton
RB: Cedric Benson, Felix Jones, Reggie Bush
TE: Visanthe Shiancoe, Jason Witten
K: John Carney
DEF/SPECIAL TEAMS: New Orleans

I would try and trade orton for a more solid WR, keep Romo as your #1 but orton has been doing good and someone in your league will most likely need him. Other than that your RB’s are solid, and so are your TE’s…Good K and DST as well

jcamhs | Oct 27, 2009

the only way i see improvement would be for you to have peyton and adrian peterson and vernon davis at te
Seno More | Oct 27, 2009

I think it’s a very good team, the two biggest disappointments on your team (besides Crabtree) would be Romo & Bush. Bush is fighting for his job with 3 other players while Romo (for the most part) has been quiet.

But other than those 2 your team is pretty solid throughout especially in the RBs. Great job on your picks!

R4 games, how would you know if the game you want is in english verison?
Hi , i am trying to download some games for my r4flash card for my nintendo ds lite , but some of the games i am looking up are not coming up in USA (english version) I looked on a couple of rom download sites and still can’t find them. How can you tell if the games that i want is even in english version and where can i get the games i want in english versions? I went to www.dgemu.comhttp://www.ndsr.net/http://www.romulation.net/ and www.dsromplanet.com and more and i still can’t find these games

some of the games i can’t find in english US are:
Cruise Line Tycoon
Real Stories Veterinaire Mission
Real Stories Mon Hotel De Reve
Real Stories Amoureux
Lets Play Journalists
AGAIN
The Boarding School Black Lagoon
Around the World in 80 Days
Miami Crisis
safecracker
The Princess and the Frog
A Christmas Carol
ABC murder
and some of CSI games

I know these games have to be in english but can someone help me out please??

For Miami Crisis, the U.S. title of it is Miami Law. You can find it when you go to rom-freaks.net and search for Miami Law. For the other titles, well, I’m not familiar with them. Here’s a clue: check if the game is succedded bu (U), (E) or something like that. Some games are multi language so better check it. Also, have you checked Coolrom.com? Try to find also in mediafire, rapidshare, megaupload or other sites by using search sites or find it in torrents but I don’t recommend this. Most of the games on your list seem like all related to crime solving of sort. If this is what you want, you can also try out Professor Layton and the curious village. If you want help, e mail me @  yellowvette07 at gmail.com. I know where you should download and I even have lots of DS games in my pc which I can send to you via e mail. I’ll also send you links.
