Boa vs. Python

As a HUGE John Mayer fan I have been anxiously awaiting Battle Studies release for months. Although not due to be released until tomorrow, I found all the songs released on youtube:

I just got done listening to it and I am so disappointed!
I understand that he wanted to take a "new approach" to this album….but there’s nothing new about it. The best song on the album, "Assassin" starts off promising (if not totally reminiscent of "Belief") and then turns to total crap by the chorus. The rest of it sounds like it was written by a 16 year old who just experienced his first break up. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great when artists write about there personal experiences, but it’s nice to have a variation of themes in an album instead of one big "love battlefield". I’m also usually one to be fond of mellow, low-key tunes, but for someone as talented as JM, this is just boring- no memorable vocals, no special guitar rifts or bass lines. Take me back to the days of Room For Squares in a heartbeat!

sorry for my ramble, just wanted to share my immense disappointment.
I’m really curious of to what other people think about it- like it or not so much?
